Ornaments

Ornaments are at the core of my dot mandala art. They were what I focused on first, learning skills through repetition and practice, so they hold a special place in my heart. Wall art pieces stay up year round. Some ornaments do too, but I have such special connections to every ornament on my Christmas tree. For an ornament that I have painted to be brought out every year and displayed as part of the holiday traditions of its owner hits me in a way I never expected. It feels like a legacy. These ornaments may be around long after I am gone, and that is a pretty cool thought.

I am also really happy that I have chosen to repurpose fishing line, most of which my family has used in Alaskan waters, to string my ornaments. It makes them that much more special, creating another connection between me, something my family cherishes, fishing, and the keeper of the ornament.
